Watch aficionados mark your calendars. Winsor Bishop is hosting an invite-only Tudor watch event in November. The special evening will provide an exclusive presentation of the new Tudor models introduced at Baselworld. The new models will be revealed at the Rooftop Gardens, Norwich on Thursday 1st November 2018 – from 6pm to 8pm.
Tudor in 2018
It’s been another stellar year for the Swiss made Tudor. Three new models were introduced to the Black Bay family, adding new sizes, styles and in-house calibres. Among them was the new Tudor Black Bay GMT, which stole centre stage at the Baselworld fair. A new classic line for women and men was also launched. Named after the year Hans Wilsdorf registered the trademark, the 1926 collection offers a range of elegant mechanical wristwatches with refined finishes, inspired by the early era of Tudor.
Star of the show
Anticipated for some time but not expected in 2018, the Black Bay GMT was a welcome surprise at this year’s Baselworld. The debuting tool watch is the first of the coveted BB family to sport the travel complication. As such it boasts a new in-house movement that supports a supplementary GMT hand. (COSC-certified with 70-hour power reserve.) This allows the wearer to keep track of ‘home’ time. While the central jump-set hour hand can be independently set to local time. A third time zone can be read off of the rotating 24-hour bezel. (One of the model’s defining features.)
The Black Bay GMT has been praised as a new model offering a strong vintage feel. It delivers on development, execution and price. Hot from the outset, the Black Bay GMT is continuing to prove popular. Part of its appeal (like all Black Bays) is that it works well on the wrists of both sexes. It’s an attractive and functional timepiece that offers impressive versatility. In the same vein is the new Black Bay Fifty-Eight, a tribute to the Submariner “Big Crown” (reference 7924) celebrating a 60th anniversary. And the new-size Black Bay 32, now part of the Black Bay 32/ 36/ 41 collection – all of which were presented with stunning blue lacquered dials at Baselworld.
Endorsed by the best
Tudor wristwatches can be seen worn on some of the most famous wrists. Not least of all global style icon, David Beckham. The former professional footballer turned philanthropist has a growing collection of Tudor timepieces. Among his favourite models is the more formal Black Bay S&G, which received a new champagne-coloured dial at Baselworld for an added note of luxury.
Beckham was drawn to Tudor by their attention to detail and interesting history. He heads up the brand’s “Born to Dare” campaign, which includes other high-profile names such as Lady Gaga. And they’re not alone. Young horology enthusiasts are turning to Tudor for the same reasons as Beckham. The transition to a more ‘progressive’ approach in recent years is paying dividends.
