How do I love thee? Let me count the ways – Elizabeth Barratt Browning

All over the world people will be celebrating 14th February as St Valentine’s day.
The beginnings of this romantic celebration can be traced back to the middle ages when there was a strong tradition of chivalry and gallantry however Valentine’s Day as we know it now evolved in 18th Century England when it became an occasion for lovers to express their affection by presenting cards, flowers and gifts. The oldest known valentine still in existence today was a poem written in 1415 by Charles, Duke of Orleans, to his wife while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London following his capture at the Battle of Agincourt.

Nowadays it is usual to send cards and give gifts to loved ones. And the ultimate surprise gift for Valentine’s Day would have to be an engagement ring.

There are lots of different styles of rings to choose as an engagement ring, from the classic and traditional solitaire diamond, which comes in a variety of different cuts from the Round Brilliant cut to a more unusual Pear or Emerald cut.

If you are lucky enough to already have an engagement ring then there are plenty of other jewellery gifts that would be just perfect for February 14th. If you already have a charm bracelet then a cute heart charm would be lovely, or a charm that denotes something special for the two of you. Or for something that is really timeless why not give pearls? A pair of pearl stud earrings will not break the bank but will always look elegant.

Let’s not forget the old adage that Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend and no girl is going to be disappointed with some diamonds on Valentine’s Day! Maybe a pair of simple but stylish diamond stud earrings or diamond pendant, or something with bags of bling…(we know which we would prefer!)
