A Modern Classic

This Autumn Patek Philippe have unveiled two new models, adding to their Twenty~4 ladies watch collection.

Inspired by the modern woman, the new models have been designed to add the perfect classical, contemporary look to your everyday style.

In 1999 Patek Philippe launched their first collection dedicated exclusively to women. As the name suggests Patek Philippe’s vision was to create a watch for every hour of the day and night, at work, at home and
during leisure activities. The new Twenty~4’s art-deco-inspired design, features a cambered rectangular case that follows the contours of a woman’s wrist with a smooth and comfortable metallic bracelet perfect to be worn and adored around the clock.

Created to add a touch of luxury to an active lifestyle the new additions to the Twenty~4 collection, reference: 4910/1200A001 features an enchanting blue sunburst dial, 4910/1200A-010 features a smoldering gray sunburst dial, both echoing timeless feminine elegance.

Crafted in stainless steel the watch dials feature applied Arabic numerals in 18ct white gold and trapeze-shaped 18ct white gold markers. On the watch case you will also spot 36 brilliant cut diamonds (0.42 ct) to compliment the bold dial displays.

Earlier this year Patek Philippe unveiled a contemporary interpretation of its much-loved Twenty~4 ladies’ watch in Milan. Available in-store from January 2019, the new Twenty~4 Automatic introduces a round case as well as a mechanical movement to the collection for the first time. While a clear departure from the familiar rectangular shape, the Twenty~4 Automatic still embodies the spirit of the collection. Here we take a closer look at what to expect.

A Round Twenty~4

Since launching in 1999, the Twenty~4 collection has been popular with stylish and discerning women the world over. Known for its rectangular case and articulated bracelet, it is the watch for every moment and every occasion in a young woman’s active and modern lifestyle. The perfect complement to fashionable business or casual wear, as well as elegant evening wear. And, as with all Patek Philippe pieces, it is built to last. Destined to be passed down for the next generation to treasure and enjoy.

The new Twenty~4 Automatic is imbued with all these same characteristics. Only now they are presented for the first time in a 36mm round case. The choice of materials and high level of finish maintain the standard set by its predecessors. The articulated bracelet is also retained – adopting the aesthetic design of the original 1999 collection. Gently cambered central links are framed by two-tier outer links to give a supple fit that follows the contour of the wrist. The bracelet also features Patek Philippe’s patented fold-over clasp with four independent catches.

Case and dial options

The bezel construction echoes the profile of the central bracelet links at 12 and 6 o’clock – providing a seamless transition from case to bracelet. 160 flawless Top Wesselton Pure brilliant-cut diamonds (~0.77 ct.) are set into the bezel using the ‘Dentelle’ technique. (A two-row, offset configuration.)

The dial features 18k gold applied Arabic numbers, hour markers, hour and minute hands, and aperture frame for the date window located at 6 o’clock. White Super-LumiNova on the numbers and hands ensure the watch is legible from day into night. The dial is perfected by a slightly domed sapphire crystal glass, which further emphasises the sculptured profile of the case. The case has a water resistance of 30m (3 bar/ 100 ft) and features a display back sapphire crystal.

The Twenty~4 Automatic is offered in stainless steel or rose gold. The steel version comes in two dial colours – graded blue sunburst (Ref. 7300/1200A-001) and graded grey sunburst (Ref. 7300/1200A-010). Likewise, the rose gold offers two dial options – graded chocolate brown sunburst (Ref. 7300/1200R-001) and silvery grey with exclusive double horizontal and vertical satin finish, reminiscent of wild Shantung silk (Ref. 7300/1200R-010).

The latter (of the rose gold options) is also available in a jewellery version, where the gem count increases considerably. 208 diamonds (~1.01 ct.) are used on the bezel and lugs, 13 diamonds (~0.06 ct.) on the crown, and a further 248 diamonds on the outer links of the bracelet – bringing the total to 469 (~1.88 ct.).

Polished by hand

An important aspect to the Twenty~4 Automatic’s appeal is its hand polished case and bracelet. The understated art of polishing greatly accentuates the case’s shape and lines. And brings the construction together into a unified whole.

Polishing at Patek Philippe is known as “free floating”. All of it is done by hand without pressure to produce a super-smooth, damage-free finish. Fabric, felt or hair (real or synthetic) coated in a gently abrasive paste is used for the work.

The bracelets are mirror-polished to catch the light. The gently chamfered links ensure the final bracelet gives a comfortable, cosseting feel against the skin. (A gold case on average takes an hour and half to polish, and a bracelet up to two hours.)

First mechanical movement

Previous versions in the Twenty~4 collection have all been powered by quartz movements. The new Patek Philippe Twenty~4 Automatic is equipped with a self-winding mechanical movement instead. The highly celebrated Calibre 324 S C comes with sweep seconds and date function. At its heart is found the patented Patek Philippe Spiromax balance spring in Silinvar.

217 components make up the calibre, with 29 jewels and a 21k gold central rotor, engraved with the Calatrava Cross. The elaborate manual finish of the movement is done to the high standards of the Patek Philippe Seal. This strict set of criteria relates to all aspects of a mechanical timepiece’s build and accuracy. (Supervised by an independent monitoring entity.) The power reserve gives a min. 35 hours up to a max. 45 hours.

An Icon Reborn

The Patek Philippe Twenty~4 Automatic offers the ultimate ladies’ watch for the modern business or dress look. The new round case endows it with an effortlessly contemporary feel and delivers on the high-quality standards set by the collection. This is a timepiece built to last for future generations.
